Getting a cancer diagnosis can be scary, overwhelming, and totally stressful. You need to choose treatment options, navigate a medical system that can range from indifferent to hostile to insulting, and then forge a new identity as a cancer survivor.
After treatment, you may find yourself experiencing an emotional state resembling Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, just as if you were a combat veteran. After all, you have been fighting a war against the disease and sometimes against well-meaning friends and family as well as health care professionals.
You may
- live with constant fear of recurrence.
- find yourself dealing with crying, anxiety, anger, and other strong emotions
- experience flashbacks to painful moments in your treatment
I know. I’ve been there. In 2005 I was diagnosed with Stage IV bone marrow cancer. The doctors told me, “Expect to live less than a year.” Although I am a registered nurse with over 20 years experience, I was traumatized by the diagnosis and by my experience with the medical system as a patient, on the other side of the desk.
What contributed to my survival? What kept me going through an intensely stressful time?
Frankly, I was surprised. My nursing skills and classroom training didn’t help. Instead, I learned some techniques that (so far) are not taught in nursing school. I began using these techniques myself, working with a coach. I honestly believe that I owe my life to these techniques that are deceptively simple.
Now I work to help others who face a similar diagnosis. I am not working as a medical practitioner. The goal here is help – not cure. When you are not struggling with stress, your body can relax and heal. You can’t repair your body when you’re constantly in “fight or flight” mode.
Here’s what some of my clients have experienced:
“Peggy saved my life…”During the spring of 2011 I sought out Peggy Mangan for assistance in dealing with the emotional and physical distress: 3 bouts of cancer and the unexpected deaths of my spouse of 46 years and my handicapped daughter. Peggy’s reimprinting process was the most remarkable experience of my life. I appreciated her unique combination of professionalism and compassion and the outcome of our sessions exceeded my expectations. Peggy saved my life and helped me find peace and joy in living. This is one cancer survivor who lost most of her world and came out on the other side a stronger person.
- Judy Valentine“It seemed too easy… “ Let me give it to you straight up– Peggy Mangan saved my life! Ever since my husband’s death a couple of years ago, I have been struggling to put my life back on track. In just one session Peggy helped me recognize and to dissolve the issue that was stopping me in my tracks. During the session, I kept thinking, “This is so easy! It can’t be doing anything for me.”
To my surprise, I was able to take an action just after the session that has led to a series of new possibilities in my life and business. Peggy gave me the courage to ask, “What if my life could be even better than I could imagine?”
- Mary L Mayer, Dancing Moon Design Consultants“Ended nightmares and PTSD symptoms … “ Peggy offers a beautiful service to all those women who have suffered a traumatic experience when giving birth. All my dreams and plans for a gentle delivery went out of the window and I went on to have recurring nightmares and other symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. My feelings remained unresolved until I experienced Peggy’s reimprinting technique, along with the understanding she acquired from her years of obstetrical nursing experience. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
